Step 4: Create the texture, using stencil and embossing medium. The stencil I used is Martha Stewart floral stencil. I spread the embossing medium using a palette knife. You can take out excess paste and place it back in your container. Make sure to wash your stencil with water after use.
Step 5: Add the embossing powder on the texture. I used gold embossing powder on this project. You can use a copy paper to catch all the excess powder and return it to the container. I intentionally left some of the powder on the cover. This will add more texture and colour on the cover.
Step 6: Set your embossing powder using heat gun. When using heat gun, make sure you don’t put it too close to your cover. It can melt your paint and burn your embossing powder.
It took me about 4 minutes to set my embossing powder. Time varies, it depends on how much embossed details you have on your cover. It’s easy to tell if the powder is set because the color will change. It will also get hard.
Step 7: When your texture is done. You can now add your colours. I want my cover to have a metallic finish so I used viva inca gold (Old gold, brown gold, old silver). Viva inka gold is a metallic paste. It is very easy to use. Use your finger to spread the paste all over and you can also layer colours and blend them according to you preference.
